LO2: Use an integrated approach to an interactive problem
Here you will find links to my formal social media accounts associated with my interest in the film industry. I am aware some of the suggested accounts are missing however I discussed which would benefit my career the most in my Unit 7 / LO1 tab.
Portfolio Plans
design/layout |
To make my portfolio look professional I need to create an organised website that highlights my best work and is easy for an employer to interact with. Most professional online portfolios have around 3 to 4 pages; a home page containing the candidate's best work and social media links, an about page where we find out who the candidate is and what they do, and a contact page giving the employer a more formal way to contact the candidate, usually for business. Other pages can include pricing, resumes, or sub departments that the candidate has worked in. For my portfolio I am going to start with 3 pages: home, about and contact. This gives my website a clean, professional look that is easy to navigate through. I will consider adding other pages such as photography or research and development of my skills as a film maker, but I would like to do this once the first 3 pages are complete.

colours |
My research into the layout of a successful portfolios shows that colour plays a really important part in creating an impression for yourself as a content creator. My website needs soft colours that will correspond well together and make my work the centre of attention. For example if I have a gallery of stills from my recent projects and the back ground is hot pink, their full attention will not be drawn to the images as the colour is too distracting. On the other hand if I were to use a soft washed blue my work would easily become the main feature on the page which is what I am aiming for. I want to use plain colours that will push my content in front of the background and that make each image individually identifiable e.g its shape and colour. After looking at professionals portfolios, I have decided that the colour scheme I will use is a light grey and white with a dark grey font. I chose these as there is no saturation. The colours in the stills of my projects will contrast with this causing them to stand out. I will produce images and video over a grey background while text is produced over a white background. This makes the text easily distinguishable and also adds some variety to my page. I will use fonts such as Verdana and Quattrocento Sans as they have smooth lettering and will keep my website looking clean and professional.

Content |
My page will have 4 main pages so I need to consider what content I would like to see on those pages. The first page I want my viewer to see when they reach my website is the home page. This will feature stills of my work in a collage at the top of the page, as well as a slide show of stills from my past projects. I would like to include stills from my film noir "Deadbeat", music video "Mona Lisa", short film "Two Peas in a Pod" and skateboard projects "Yasmar" and "S3RV3R". I consider these 5 projects my best work however my portfolio will become more interesting to navigate across as I add more successful work. The next page on from home will be my Work page. This will feature the video evidence of my projects so the viewer can see the set of skills I have. On this page I would like to include my film noir, music video and S3RV3R as they show a variety of my skills as a film maker and are 3 very different projects I have worked on. The 'About Me' page will feature a paragraph where I talk about myself, my interest in the industry and my personal interests. I think this is an important piece of writing I need to spend time on as I want the viewer to understand I know exactly what I am talking about and I am passionate about my interests. This page will also include references from peers, teachers and employment. The final page will be my 'Contact Me' page where the viewer can send me a message via email to my professional email created especially for my profession routes. I was also going to include social media links only at the bottom of my home page but then I realised some people my go to the contact page for this. From research into portfolio layouts, Directors of Photography suggest putting social media links at the home page. With both of these in mind I have decided to add social media links on all my pages in the same place so it is easy fir a navigator to access my Twitter, YouTube, Linkenin or email.
